Database glitches leave 400000 UK workers without pay Database problems at the Bacs clearing system have left up to 400,000 people awaiting their salary payments. Bacs provides a central clearing house for automated payments and clears 30 million a day. Internet fraudsters enjoy boom in UK Internet fraudsters have had another good year, according to the U.K.’s Association for Payment Clearing Services (APACS). The banking organization's latest annual figures show that card not present (CNP) fraud in the country has risen by 29 percent compared to 2004, reaching £90.6 million (US$175 million) in the six months to June this year. Of that, fraud specific to Internet transactions has risen by five percent, to £58 million.

South African bank, telecom team on mobile banking Standard Bank and MTN last week launched MTN Banking -- a mobile, person to person banking platform. MTN Banking is a 50/50 joint venture between the two, which sees Standard Bank providing the banking infrastructure (and licence), and MTN the telephony/SMS system.
