Windows PC sales hit low, tablets soar

ITWORLD CANADA CURATED: Shipments of Windows laptops and desktops have hit new lows as tablet shipments rise, according to market research

The latest evidence of a change in buyers tastes comes in a quarterly report from Canalys Research. According to this story from ComputerWorld, shipments of Windows PCs dropped to a new low of 73 per cent of all devices surveyed.
Whether that will change this quarter, when many students (and their parents) will be looking for new laptops for back-to-school, is unknown. One thing is clear is that the introduction of Ultrabooks hasn't sparked the PC market yet.

Meanwhile, Windows 8, along new Ultrabooks will be released Oct. 26. Will buyers put off spending until then? Or will they decide to keep the PCs they have now and push tablet sales higher?

As for Apple, this report suggests it has a lot of reasons to smile.
