IBM to buy cloud HR provider

IT WORLD CANADA CURATED: Kinexa is to be taken over for US$1.3 billion, another company swallowed up in the race to gain prominance for providing human resource management

Human resource software has become hot. Late last year Salesforce.com bought Toronto's Rypple, SAP bought SuccessFactors and earlier this year Oracle bought Taleo.

On Monday, IBM said it will buy Kenexa, a maker of cloud-based human resources applications for US$1.3 billion. As this story from Computerworld U.S. details, one goal is to integrate Kenexa's suite with IBM's enterprise social networking software.

But also note this column in Forbes from Josh Bersin, who suggests there are more assets that Kenexa offers, including consulting and the ability to comb through big data.
 
Kinexa, which has some 8,900 customers and operates in 21 countries, including Canada where it has an office in Toront. In addition to its software, the company's 2,100 employees include an HR consulting division.
