Silex unveils real-time switching for digital signs

Silex Technology America Inc. has announced real-time content selection capability for companies using digital signage applications.

The Tustin, Calif.-based company said it can allow any MVDS user to immediately switch the content that is displayed on digital signs without the need for expensive switching hardware. The real-time selection function works with multiple video sources that are connected using either 802.11 wireless or Ethernet hardwired networking technology. Digital signs can display can from both of these sources, with Silex’s distribution system allowing the user to change the content using via software switch.

MVDS, which stands for Multipoint Video Distribution System, uses digital multicast technology to support up to 1,000 wired displays or 32 wireless displays. The MVDS with real-time content switching will be demonstrated at the Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas this week.
