Oracle unveils mobile workforce software

Oracle Corp. has announced version 1.5 of its Utilities Mobile Workforce Management software, which is designed to help companies schedule field service staff.

Version 1.5 has more than 20 new features, including the ability to link between various tasks on a project. For example, Oracle says, companies wanting to schedule the digging of a trench, installing conduit and then setting a meter could reconfigure the entire job once is one aspect changes. The software is also designed to substitute employees with the correct skills if one employee is absent.

It integrates with Oracle Fusion Middleware MapViewer, which lets companies display mapping data from different sources, such as an Oracle database, geographic information systems or Web services. The route replay feature is designed to illustrate routes where employees have travelled before.
