Carriers & ISPs Briefs

Vancouver’s 360networks Inc., formerly Worldwide Fiber Inc., is deploying Marconi Communications’ ATM multi-service networking gear for 360networks’ global fibre optic network. With switches already installed and fully operational, the multi-million dollar project will mark the commercial launch of Marconi’s high-speed OC-48 technology, which allows voice, data and multimedia traffic to travel at speeds of up to 2.488Gbps, according to Marconi. The Marconi equipment in use is comprised of the ASXT-4000 switch as well as ForeView management and accounting software. The ASXT-4000’s capability to offer PNNI implementation is a key feature to the successful roll-out of 360networks’ global network, according to the companies. Additional information about 360networks is available at www.worldwidefiber.com.
