Avaya rolls out retail IP-enabled products

Avaya Inc. has announced Specialist Connect for Retailers, a plug-in for its IP telephony software, and Video Assistance for Retailers, which lets store managers run high-definition or two-way video applications.

The products were announced at the National Retail Federation Annual Conference and Expo in New York this week.

Specialist Connect for Retailers uses features from Avaya’s Communication Manager software to locate specialists equipped with the CA50 IP wireless phone, which was announced at the same event this week by Schaumberg, Ill.-based Motorola Inc.

For example, a sales person who wants to find a houseware specialist to answer a customer’s question could use the CA50 to scan a bar code and then the software would search information from the house department can determine which expert is available.

The Video Assistance product, which is designed for hardware from video equipment maker Polycom Inc. of Pleasonton, Calif., can be combined with call routing software to ensure calls are toure to the appropriate sales agent.
