It’s hard to believe that Windows 7 is already nine years old, but as per the Microsoft Lifecycle Policy, Windows 7 extended support will end exactly one year from today.
All versions of Windows 7 – including enterprise and education editions – will be affected.
Most Microsoft Windows OS versions (except for Long-Term Servicing Channel) have five years of mainstream support followed by five additional years of extended support, during which time only security updates are released.
Expect Microsoft to release a final service pack near the end of the lifecycle, and be sure to install service pack 1 (SP1) to receive the final patches. Businesses that need additional security and performance updates can purchase Microsoft Extended Security Update program which provides an additional three years of support, or upgrade to a newer version of Windows.
