One of the things keeping enterprise content management (ECM) from realizing its full potential is the difficulty of supporting content synchronization and sharing across diverging fixed, mobile and cloud environments while maintaining security and staying in control of the actual content. To realize all of those competing goals at once, IT managers need better integration between their content management systems and their computing infrastructure.
Two well known brands that specialize in those areas have announced a partnership that they hope will begin to accelerate ECM’s penetration in the enterprise. Waterloo, Ontario’s OpenText Corp. and SAP AG are developing their business partnership to bring to market an enhanced enterprise content management (ECM) portfolio.
Under the new integration, SAP Archiving by OpenText will now run on SAP’s HANA platform, including support for HANA Enterprise Cloud service deployments. As part of SAP’s Extended Enterprise Content Management by OpenText (SAP Extended ECM), customers will now be able to access Tempo Box, OpenText’s enterprise file sync and share solution.
SAP and OpenText are already heavily integrated. In May of last year OpenText became the first SAP partner to bring to market fully tested solutions qualified by SAP for integration with SAP Business Suite running on the HANA platform. That integration has now been extended to include support for SAP HANA on the OpenText core Archive Server.
Currently on-premise SAP Archiving by OpenText has more than 4200 customers – or a total of about 15 million end users. The new integration, OpenText says, will allow them to access the same solution on SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. Customers will be able to process business content more quickly. The new solutions will also support customers in SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud environments.
With HANA customers will be able to access historical data within the enterprise ECM system more quickly, access single-point management and workflow of data assets and leverage HANA for content archiving and retrieval.
Besides the new support for HANA, OpenText will make its Tempo Box file synchronization and sharing software free for employees of customers that have SAP Extended ECM installed with 10.5 or SAP Document Access by OpenText. OpenText Tempo Box integrates into SAP Extended ECM, supporting content sharing and workflow across any device while supporting maintaining information governance and control.
Tempo Box provides file access, sharing and synchronization across PC and mobile devices, and enables users to collaborate on SAP (Nasdaq: SAP) Business Objects business intelligence content. OpenText says it reduces corporate risks by ensuring compliance with proper management of enterprise documents and provides quick access to historical data within an enterprise ECM system.
OpenText (Nasdaq: OTEX) says Tempo Box will be available for qualifying SAP Extended ECM by OpenText and SAP Document Access customers free of charge in July.
