Oracle torques human resource management applications

Six security lessons from one of the biggest attacks in history

Using IT to find and keep staff is increasingly important today, the proof being the number of large software companies to invest big in human resource-related products and services.
Oracle Corp., which this week held its first conference for its human capital management applications dubbed HCM World, is one of the leaders.
As part of the show it announced updates to its online Oracle HCM Cloud service, including more than 200 changes. They include an integrated time and attendance solution, workforce modeling, additional global support for payroll – including a framework for Canadian payroll structures — and new languages.
“By enhancing this complete cloud-enabled HR system with user experience innovations, new mobile functionality, additional global support and deeper analytics, Oracle is giving organizations the capabilities they need to meet the changing needs of modern business,” the company said in a release.

It also released a new in-memory application called Labor Rules and Monitoring, for its PeopleSoft enterprise resource management suite. The app lets organizations use predefined labor policy rules through Oracle Policy Automation to make decisions around employee time and work.

Through a dashboard managers can approve reported time or payable time, react to any exceptions that need to be addressed, and get insight into key information to quickly take action. Oracle [Nasdaq: ORCL] says. With the included analytics, managers can visually look at the time that has been generated by the rules (real time or batch). If using schedules, they will be able to see the schedule deviations that may occur or have already occurred.

Also at the conference, CEO Larry Ellison urged attendees not to forget that HCM software gives people the tools to do their jobs well.
“You should be constantly communicating with your people,” he was quoted in NetworkWorld U.S. as saying. “The people then themselves have to connect with each other” through software.
The improvements to HCM Cloud include new links to Oracle Social Sourcing Cloud and Oracle Recruiting Cloud to help better identify internal talent and to convert more leads from social media.
