Juniper adds more Ethernet switches

Juniper Networks has added to its line of Ethernet switches to its portfolio with what the company says is a small flexible form factor for enterprise campuses of data centre top of rack deployments.

The EX4600 switches are designed to help organizations shift to higher density campus environments and interconnected sites by supporting high-bandwidth services like unified communications and collaboration as well support access to cloud applications across the campus and devices.

They deliver scalable 10/40GbE connectivity, with up to 72 wire-speed SFP+ 10 GbE ports and up to 12 40GbE QSFP+ ports in a 1U platform. All versions feature two expansion slots that can accommodate optional expansion modules.  Two expansion modules are available: a 8x10GBASE SFP/SFP+ fiber expansion module, and a 4x40GbE QSFP+ expansion module.

The EX4600 supports Juniper’s Virtual Chassis technology, which allows up to 10 interconnected switches to operate as a single, logical device with one IP address and managed through the Junos Space Network Director software. It can also operate as a Virtual Chassis with EX4300 switches.

In addition to providing Layer 2 and Layer 3 features, the EX4600 offers In-Service Software Update (ISSU) capabilities for the campus and 40G ports with a virtual chassis option, enabling the delivery of new applications and services, the company said.

High availability features include active and backup routing engines, graceful failover, ISSU capabilities and quality of service (QoS) to prioritize time-sensitive data. Paring ISSU with MC-LAG provides redundancy/resiliency in the aggregation layer and also provides hitless upgrades so that both LAG switches stay operating and full bandwidth is available to applications, Juniper said.
