Embarcadero Technologies has released its Appmethod multi-device application development platform with its latest tools, saying the environment is now ideal for making connected apps for the Internet of Things.
Appmethod, which lets developers create Windows, iOS, Mac and Android apps with a single C+++ codebase using natively compiled languages, now has three of the capabilities Embarcadero announced last week for its RAD Studio XE7 r environment for Delphi/Object Pascal and C++
These are:
— FireUI, which combines a multi-device UI designer, layout components, and rendering technology that enables apps for multiple platforms to be built using common user interface source code such as event handling and UI logic, yet deliver a native platform experience by optimizing specific device form factors
–Bluetooth and Wi-Fi App Tethering, which allows developers to easily connect apps to any wireless or Internet-connected gadgets, sensors and devices via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi app tethering;
— and Enterprise Mobility Services (EMS), a turnkey middleware solution that can easily be deployed on premise, or into a private cloud by a development team, to provide a set of application services, including user authentication, analytics, encrypted embedded and server storage, custom API management, and Mobile Enterprise SQL database connectivity, all over industry standard REST/JSON.
“We designed Appmethod to make it incredibly simple to build powerful cross-platform apps with C++ that easily connect with and include a wide variety of consumer and industrial devices, sensors, enterprise data, and cloud services,” Michael Swindell, Embarcadero’s senior vice-president of products, said in a release. “Appmethod is designed as a complete end-to-end platform that can rapidly open the IoT door for developers building the next generation of device-extended applications.”’
Embarcadero also released an online survey of developers who responded to a questionnaire. Almost one third said they are already working on IoT apps; 86 per cent of those not yet engaged in IoT are planning to begin connected app development starting in the next 18 months.
