The ability of organizations to access and create public and private clouds has opened up tremendous opportunities for flexibility in data storage.
On the other hand, cloud also makes backup and recovery more complex.
In a blog this week Tom Trainer takes a look at three new releases from Datacastle Corp., Acronis International and Sepaton Inc. that help IT departments deal with the recent challenges in storage.
Each have different capabilities: Datacastle RED provides basic endpoint data backup, Acronis Storage combines the company’s NFS software with the user’s storage system, while Sepaton’s VirtuoSO is aimed at organizations that have to scale their backup infrastructure.
In a news release Sepaton said its NAS-based solution — which starts at US$344,500 — has five times the capacity of competitive solutions now, and is planned to have up to 22 times in future releases. VirtuoSO can work as fast as 7.9TB/hour with a single node, the company says, and scales up to 16 nodes for total throughput up to 126 TB/hour in a single system.
Acronis Storage, aimed at service providers offering cloud storage, “can meet increasing archiving and backup storage demands with better performance and significantly lower cost than large cloud providers like Amazon, the company says.
Datacastle RED can run on-premise or on Microsoft Azure and IBM SmartCloud environments.
