Elton John quits Twitter

Following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, Elton John has announced his departure. He makes reference to the company’s new misinformation policy. John announced his departure from the platform because one of the changes will allow “misinformation to flourish unchecked.”

The Rocket Man singer wrote in what could be his final tweet: All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world. I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked.”

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, responded to John’s announcement by asking him to expound on what lies are being shared on Twitter. Musk said; “I love your music. Hope you come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that you’re concerned about?” Musk asked, but to no response.

Elton John’s exit from Twitter appears to be linked to Twitter’s announcement that it will no longer enforce a policy aimed at combating misinformation about the Covid pandemic.

Since Musk’s $44 billion takeover of Twitter in October, there has been controversy after controversy, and this is the latest.
