Cisco Systems Inc. and Google have teamed up in the development of a video conferencing application that will enable Google Chromebook users to quickly take part in Cisco WebEx conferences.
Up until now connecting to a WebEx conference using a laptop required downloading an agent. The new app will now handle this operation. When it becomes available in the Google Play store, the app will allow Chromebook users to arrange WebEx conferences faster than the current browser download.
The Google HTML5 client for WebEx is still being developed but is will be available soon, according to Cisco.
The networking gear company also demonstrated two new business-focused video conferencing devices:
- The SX-10, telepresence device aimed at small and medium sized businesses
- The SpeakerTrack 60 dual video camera
The $1,500-SX-10 ships with an integrated HD camera, microphone, wall mount, HDMI cables and remote control.
The SpeakerTrack 60 detects people in a room and automatically frame video conferencing images to crop away empty chairs and vacant spaces.
It also automatically zooms-in for a close of a speaker and zooms-out for a wide shot of the room when a speaker on the other end starts talking. The SpeakerTrack is available on Cisco’s MX-700 and MX-800 conferencing systems and costs $15,000
