Sun Microsystems on Tuesday said tools and professional services to help developers make use of open source technologies in data storage applications.
The tools included a “how-to” recipe on how to build an OpenSolaris operating system storage server in 10 minutes or less, using performance management technologies such as ZFS, NFS, CIFS and COMSTAR, Sun said. Another how-to guide, called Simple Steps to building a network-attached storage (NAS) appliance, also works on OpenSolaris.
Sun also added services around data migration and building an open storage architectural design from a proprietary system. So far, Sun boasts more than 3,000 members and more than 30 projects within its OpenSolaris storage community.
