Smith Micro expands QuickLink Mobile protection for Android, Windows

The move to tablets and smart phones by workers out of the office has become something of a marathon, as sales of the devices show. But not all have enterprise-grade security.

Smith Micro Software, which makes a range of security applications including the QuickLink line for laptops, has added two new mobile solutions for enterprises and public safety agencies.

The QuickLink Mobile VPN software for Android and QuickLink Unified Connection & Security Manager for Windows 8.1 will provide flexibility and control to expand mobile security and connectivity to a variety of mobile devices beyond legacy Windows-based platforms, the company said.

In many industries where field equipment must be ruggedized, demand for smaller form factors is driving rapid replacement of larger laptops to ruggedized Windows 8.1 and Android tablets and smartphones. QuickLink Mobility solutions help make them secure.

“Unlike some Android VPN solutions out on the market today, QuickLink Mobile VPN can be installed over the top without sacrificing key features,” Mark An, the company’s senior product manager, said in a release.

QuickLink Mobile features include:

The Mobile VPN is available for mobile devices running Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Android 4.0. Unified Connection & Security Manager is for tablets and laptops running Windows 7 and 8.1
