Radware Launches SynApps Architecture

Guaranteeing consistent positive user experience when accessing Web site content is the idea behind Radware Inc.’s new SynApps Architecture.

According to Mahwah, N.J.-based Radware, SynApps eliminates network uncertainty and provides customers with fast, continuous, secure and personalized service and redefines the role of application switching by providing all the necessary tools to secure its customers’ relationships with their users.

“Radware has been one of the pioneer vendors in what we call Internet traffic management,” said Mike Long, Radware’s vice-president of marketing and technology. “What we are trying to do (now) is put what we call Layer 4 through Layer 7 intelligence on switches, Web switches, applications switches and content switches. The whole concept and the whole business case is to create high-availability IT resources or Internet resources.”

Long said the SynApps architecture is unique in that it is comprised of four modules. The Application Health Monitoring module is equipped with health monitoring tools that check physical and logical application resources and all IP protocols and Web transactions. Long explained the Traffic Redirection module ensures users are always sent to the best site either locally or globally. And the Bandwidth Management and Application Security modules, Long said, are what make SynApps unlike any other architecture available.

“No other company is offering all four modules on a traffic management switch,” Long said.

He noted the Bandwidth Management module allows the user to define who would receive the most bandwidth based on the user’s site. “With SynApps Architecture, you can actually throttle bandwidth for applications,” Long explained.

The Application Security module has an intrusion detection or firewall functionality that sits in front of the servers, Long said, which acts as another level of security.

He explained Internet traffic management space is made up of different kinds of customers.

“It’s basically for any organization that wants to make sure that their content is always available,” he said.

According to one analyst, there are two goals for this type of equipment: to increase reliability and predictability of the Web server, and to enhance the speed for the end user to view pages.

“The market is hot and it is getting crowded right now,” said Cindy Borovick, program manager for IDC in Framingham, Mass. “Radware has been in this space for quite a while, so they have a bit of an edge in terms of being in the next generation of products compared to others.”

Borovick explained SynApps Architecture increases the performance of Radware’s existing products.

“When you talk to key buyers in this space, particularly Web hosters and service providers, what they want is a platform that is high-performance and reliable. SynApps enables Radware to meet those requirements. It’s their attempt,” she said.

The SynApps Architecture will be sold as an add-on module to each Radware product line and will be available in Q4. Pricing will be US$10,000 for one product and US$15,000 for two product purchases.

“This has evolved into a very mature technology, but the purpose is to guarantee to your customers that they get rapid, consistent service and that they get valid content,” Long said.
