Oracle releases VMs for 12c databases

Oracle Corp. has released a set of virtual machine templates to support database 12c and another set for database 11g 11.2.0.3.7.

In the past, database templates were focused on Real Application Cluster (RAC) deployments. Oracle added a support for single instance deployment due to “popular demand,” according to the company.

“With single instance, you can create a new VM with the database up and running in matter of a few (very few) minutes and with a single config file,” according to a blog post on the Oracle Web site. “You don’t need to do anything other than run a few Oracle VM CLI or UI commands and run deploymentcluster  and you’re all set.”

After a few minutes, the VM will be “pingable,” the post said.

– Admin Managed or Policy managed database creation with serverpools
– OS kernel updated to the latest uek 2 version 2.6.39-400

The functions can be automated and reproduces even if the user does not know how to configure them.
