Calgary provider grows network to meet high Ethernet demands

It’s no secret that business in Calgary is booming and the city’s exploding growth is creating stress in a number of areas, including carrier services.

Enmax Envision Inc., the telecom services arm of Calgary’s utility company, Enmax Corp., recently expanded its core metropolitan area network from Gigabit Ethernet speeds to 10 Gigabit Ethernet to meet the demands of its enteprise customer base.

Among Enmax’s 160-odd customers are nine of Calgary’s 12 largest oil and gas firms, says Erwin Kantwerg, general manager of Enmax Envision.

“All of them are finding they can’t locate all of their people in the same physical location any more,” he explains. “Our downtown is full.”

Now these customers have three, four and in some cases, up to six locations spread throughout Calgary, Kantwerg notes. And they’re asking for high speed Gigabit Ethernet connect
