Amazon Web Services is aiming to keep its name at the top of developers lists of cloud services they want to use with a certification program.
The latest title, announced Friday is AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional. The exam for the certification will be available for those going to this week’s Amazon re:Invent conference in Las Vegas.
Th certification is “the next step in the path for AWS Certified Developers and SysOps Administrators,” wrote Jeff Barr, Amazon’s cloud evangelist, on the AWS blog. “This exam validates technical expertise in provisioning, operating, and managing distributed application systems on the AWS platform. It is intended to identify individuals who are capable of implementing and managing systems which are highly available, scalable, and self-healing on the AWS platform.”
To be eligible for the exam, one must already be certified as an AWS Certified Developer – Associate or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate. Barr says candidates should also have several years of experience provisioning, operating, and managing AWS environments, along with experience developing code in at least one high-level programming language, as well as experience in automation and testing via scripting or programming.
It would help, obviously, to understand agile and other modern development processes and methodologies, as all DevOps followers should.
“As cloud computing becomes moves in to the mainstream, the demand for DevOps skills continues to rise as companies are seeking to gain benefits from this practice,” he writes. “This certification helps IT professionals validate their skills in the DevOps area and allows employers to identify qualified candidates to lead DevOps initiatives.”
