Time is of the essence, goes a saying. That’s even more true these days, when organizations want information at the speed of light.
It’s one of the reasons by SAP has added integration on its several of its platforms with Esri’s geospatial services and content, using by a number of verticals to track assets. As a result Esri/SAP customers will be able to search much faster for location-based data.
By integrating ESRI’s industry leading GIS with SAP’s HANA in-memory database, the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform and SAP Mobile Platform as well as geospatial analytics within SAP Lumira, we are enriching business data with geographical context and presenting it in real time — bringing a whole new level of insight to customers,” Steve Lucas, president of SAP’s platform solutions division, said in a statement.
Esri ArcGIS can now execute queries natively on SAP HANA closer to where the data resides, the company said. The Esri mapping platform also enables self-service mapping, analysis and collaboration. Developers can also quickly create high-performance spatial applications that use ArcGIS Online geo-content and mapping services using ArcGIS for Developers and the developer edition of SAP HANA, available on SAP HANA Marketplace.
According to CRMBuyer.com, about 60 per cent of SAP asset management customers use Esri mapping technology.
Steve Benner Esri’s manager of the SAP partnership, explained how the integration worked in practice for an early adopter, a utility in Norway. It wanted to map and identify where its underground pipes were in location to vulnerable buildings. Before the integration the query would have taken three hours. After it took three seconds.
The integration with Esri ArcGIS takes advantage of native high-performance processing of spatial data capability added last year to the SAP HANA platform.
