Justice Department drafts antitrust lawsuit against Apple

Apple could face a major antitrust lawsuit in the United States soon. The Department of Justice’s antitrust division is preparing an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, which it intends to file by the end of the year. However, a final decision on whether to sue Apple has not yet been made.

Justice Department investigators are now collecting essentially all the data needed to formally sue Apple for alleged monopolistic practices while drafting the lawsuit. Originally, the Department of Justice’s investigation focused on the App Store, it is now said to be much broader.

The lawsuit will address various aspects of the Apple company, such as whether or how Apple’s oversight of devices affects rivals alongside app developers. This is influenced by public concerns from companies such as Tile and Spotify, which have asserted that Apple’s oversight of the platform gives it the upper hand over third parties with Apple Music and AirTag.
