CES preview: Business users of IT won’t be left out

The annual Consumer Electronics Show starts next week in Las Vegas, and while ITWC columnist Stephen Ibaraki will be there reporting for us already vendors are pushing out press releases on what will be revealed.

The “C” in the name doesn’t mean readers should dismiss the event. There will be a lot of tablets, smart phones and other devices to keep business users of technology interested.

Jason Hiner has written a preview of some of the trends that our readers might be interested in.

Topping the list are wearables (like Google Glass, the glasses with an Internet-connected view screen, and Pebble, the smartwatch  maker scheduled to make an announcement Monday).

Hiner predicts wearable digital cameras will be seen in the booths.

Anything that fits under the “Internet of things” umbrella — which means anything other than a PC or server connected to the Internet — will also sure to be displayed

Contextual or predictive computing solutions leveraging large datasets will also be touted, he writes.

Unofficially the event starts Sunday with briefings for reporters on the state of the tech industry. Monday is set aside to give reporters and industry analysts a chance to go through the show floor without fighting the thousands of attendees for the attention of vendors. They get in on Tuesday.
