Telus Corp. says it will spend more than $33 million on a data centre near Montreal that would comply with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards.
The Burnaby, B.C. carrier plans to have the 44,500 square foot Uptime Institute Tier III centre up and running in Laval, Quebec by 2010. It is currently retrofitting the existing building.
The company announced the data centre will be connected to six mega-volt-amps of power, and will include a heat exchange system to cool its servers with outside air two-thirds of the year. Telus operates eight data centres in Canada, connecting to its national IP network. Target markets include businesses in transportation, health and financial services.
