Was he tired or given a push?
That’s the question industry and financial analysts are puzzling over with the news late Monday that Windows division president Steven Sinofsky had left the company.
His departure comes right after the release of Windows 8 and its love-it-or-like-it tile interface, which the company is trying to put across PCs, tablets and smart phone using its operating system. Most people agree it works on the latter two devices but are doubtful of its utility on a desktop computer. A number of industry analysts believe the new UI will be an obstacle to Win8 being adopted in the enterprise as quickly as Windows XP.

In a statement Sinofsky was generous to the company. “It is impossible to count the blessings I have received over my years at Microsoft. I am humbled by the professionalism and generosity of everyone I have had the good fortune to work with at this awesome company,” he said.
“I am grateful for the many years of work that Steven has contributed to the company,” said CEO Steve Ballmer. “The products and services we have delivered to the market in the past few months mark the launch of a new era at Microsoft.
