With an eye on “delivering a better network experience,” Wind Mobile Corp. announced today it has named Nokia Networks to be its sole network infrastructure provider to deliver Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technology to its Canadian users.

Under the five-year deal, Wind will offload its voice traffic and work with Nokia Networks to provide a comprehensive end-to-end solution that includes deployment of new radio LTE and LTE virtualized core technologies. This will include an OpenStack-based full cloud-based core, which the company says will involve IMS, HSS, VoLTE, and VoWi-Fi services.

Wind’s system enhancements will involve the network implementation, planning, optimization and care services in order to ensure consistent quality and a successful upgrade, the companies said, adding Nokia Networks will also provide cloud wise services, including systems integration for VoLTE and packet core deployment.

Today’s partnership announcement with Nokia Networks as its sole source LTE network provider allows Wind to bring the most advanced technologies available to its customers, said Wind CEO Alek Krstajic in a release.

As Wind’s sole network infrastructure provider, Nokia will be focused on improving the network experience for their customer base, according to Nokia Networks North America executive vice-president Ricky Corker in a statement.

“We have worked with Nokia Networks since our inception in 2009, and they have been a trusted partner as we’ve expanded our footprint and subscriber base over the years. With Nokia, WIND is positioned as Canada’s fourth largest wireless provider, bringing affordable wireless service to even more Canadians,” Krstajic said.
