The Playlist: 5 cloud computing clips

If 2009 was the year of cloud computing hype, perhaps 2010 will be the year CIOs actually use it.

While security concerns, SLAs and other issues create some hestition among senior technology executives to offload IT infrastructure to third-party providers, I’ve talked to several CIOs recently who have aggressively moved on developing internal or “private” clouds. Many others are evaluating the concept carefully as they struggle to deal with the demands placed on their networks and the ongoing pressure to reduce costs.

I had an opportunity recently to speak with Tom Wheatley, a distinguished engineer with IBM Canada based in Monteal, who discussed some of the key questions cloud computing raises, as well as a look at how this model may fundamentally change the IT department of the future.
