Nortel Networks Corp. has won a 3-year, $400 million contract to equip service provider Teleglobe Communications Corp. with optical networking gear.
The equipment will be used in Teleglobe’s GlobeSystem network, which provides hosting, content distribution and broadband IP connectivity.
Nortel will supply Teleglobe with the OPTera Long Haul 1600 Optical Line System, which will be used to transport Internet and voice services on GlobeSystem networks in North America, Europe and Asia. In North America, one of the first routes in operation will be Montreal to New York.
Internationally, Nortel Networks will light Teleglobe’s OC-48 SONET ring in Tokyo and new European fiber routes with dense wave division multiplexing capacity across the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany.
In addition to the long-haul gear, Teleglobe will use Nortel’s Preside management software and OPTera Connect DX Connection Manager provisioning software. Nortel will also provide project management and other implementation and integration services.
