Women’s Executive Network (WXN) has revealed its latest list of Canada’s most powerful women — and a number of them rank as leaders in some of the country’s top tech firms.
On Thursday, WXN announced the lost if Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winners, and many of the winners either champion tech within their organizations or are working with tech firms.
“Women are not just leading companies, headlines and new deals, we’re doing so in record numbers. In addition to closing the gender gap for participation in post-secondary education and the workforce, we’re excelling at the top levels of every sector,” said WXN owner and CEO Sherri Stevens in a release. “The purpose of the Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards is about celebration and inspiration. By recognizing a community of now 939 remarkable women, we get the opportunity to look back, appreciate the hard work it took to get here and show the next generation of leaders what’s possible.”
Some of the top winners in tech included:
- Leagh Turner, global COO, strategic customer program, SAP AG
- Shannon Rogers, president and general counsel, Global Relay Communications
- Shereen Anis, CEO, Kid Koder’z City Inc.
- Sarah Jacobs Barrs, director of events, Klick Inc.
- Valerie Mann, partner, Lawson Lundell LLP (a technology law group)
- Dianne Carmichael, managing director, health innovation & ventures, MaRS Discovery District, CEO, Carmichael Worldwide Inc.
- Natasha Walji, head of industry, branded apparel, Google
- Shahrzad Rafati, founder & CEO, BroadbandTV
- Ulrike Bahr-Gedalia, president & CEO, Digital Nova Scotia
The annual list compiles the names of dozens of Canadian women in leadership roles at a variety of small and large organizations. According to the WXN website, nominees and winners alike come from all walks of life and a variety of professions.
“They range from businesswomen, bureaucrats and lawyers to doctors, journalists, scientists, arts administrators and not-for-profit executives,” according to WXN’s Top 100 FAQ page.
