Talent forum attracts laid-off workers

After being out of work for two years, Roland Michaud feels like he is finally in “transition mode.”

Like many, Michaud left a software design and project management job in the late 90s to join the then-booming Nortel in a similar, but much better paying management role.

“For the first few months things were good — then the shares started going down and you know the rest of the story,” he said. Michaud remained at Nortel for about a year-and-a-half before he was laid off in January of 2002, joining the ranks of 15,000 to 20,000 other Ottawa workers who have had a similar experience.
