An ambitious study designed to explore the nature and extent of outsourcing being carried out in Canada has been launched under the combined efforts of the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA), and the Canadian project leaders for EMERGENCE, an international group formed to investigate the quality and describe the characteristics of telemediated jobs that are relocating between North America, Asia and Europe.
The primary goal of the project is to capture and document developments in e-work practices in Canada as they re-shape employment and industrial patterns domestically and internationally. Building on extensive qualitative studies that have already been completed here and abroad, CATA has now partnered with EMERGENCE Canada to deliver an internationally available Web-based survey to help quantify some of the efforts to date.
Along with attempting to determine just where the jobs are going to or coming from, the study also hopes to determine the forces that are driving or impeding outsourcing activity in Canada.
