Sierra Wireless secures deal down under

Sierra Wireless Inc. of Richmond, B.C. is providing mobile broadband technology used by Australian vendors Telestra Corp. Ltd. and NetComm Ltd.

The Telestra Turbo 7 Series Wireless Gateway, which provides Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections, is available on Telestra’s high-speed Next G network, which uses High-Speed Packet Access and the EV-DO Rev A standards. It uses a combination of Sierra Wireless’ Empowered embedded module and NetComm’s data communications hardware. NetComm, of Lane Cove, New South Wales, says the Turbo 7 gateway will be available today.

It complies with the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) standard and is designed to give business users remote access to data, e-mails and the Internet. It also lets users connect PCs to notebooks, Wi-Fi phones and PDAs, the vendors say. Other security features include virtual private networking and an SPI firewall.
