Just a few days after trumpeting its alliance with Microsoft Corp. and announcing plans to incorporate .Net technology into its own products, Siebel Systems Inc. is offering reassurances about its commitment to .Net rival Java by reaffirming its partnership with Java creator Sun Microsystems Inc.
Siebel’s latest release of its eBusiness Applications suite, version 7.5, now supports the J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) Connector Architecture, a specification for integrating enterprise applications with the Java platform, the companies said Wednesday.
But the main point of Wednesday’s announcement, made at Siebel’s Worldwide User Week conference in Los Angeles, was to emphasize that the ties between Sun and Siebel remain strong, Sun executives said. Siebel has said it is committed to fully supporting both .Net and J2EE.
Siebel’s newly deepened partnership with Microsoft could also benefit the company’s J2EE customers by prompting increased communication about J2EE initiatives, said Scott Anderson, director of Sun’s Siebel alliance.
“Siebel came to us in advance to talk about (the .Net alliance),” he said. “Those discussions actually served as a catalyst for better engagement between our executives.”
