German software company SAP AG on Tuesday announced updates to its SAP HANA solution suite with the new SAP HANA express edition. Announced at its SAP TechEd conference in Los Angeles, the in-memory computing and analytics offering enables application developers to take advantage of “ubiquitous access” to the SAP HANA platform to build applications free of charge on a laptop or desktop, or in the cloud.
Relational database management system HANA represents the S/4HANA enterprise platform suite initially launched by SAP in 2015; in August the company announced its SAP BW/4HANA will soon be available on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC).
The express version of SAP HANA is geared for users seeking a free version to learn firsthand how to use the solution and its application development environment, according to the company. Developers can use the express edition to develop, test and deploy production applications that use up to 32 GB of memory for free, or upgrade for a fee for more memory.
This summer, the company announced more than 3,700 customers are currently using HANA, including large customers such as The Hershey Company and Cathay Pacific.
