Waterloo, Ont.- based Research In Motion (RIM) Ltd. on Monday released the voice and data enabled BlackBerry 6210. The Java based device offers e-mail, phone, and short messaging system (SMS) along with browser and organizer applications.
The 6210 offers always-on data operation with an integrated phone, RIM said. It features a “thumb typing” keyboard, a navigation trackwheel, 16MB of flash memory, 2MB SRAM, a rechargeable/removeable battery and universal serial bus (USB) connectivity. It runs on the 900/1900MHz GSM/GPRS network in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
On the e-mail side, some additional features now include two-way synchronization of e-mail messages including support for read/unread status, deletions and filings along with integrated attachment viewing for file formats such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, Adobe PDF and ASCII text. The offering also includes a remote address feature for look up capabilities allowing BlackBerry users to search their organization’s address list.
Also on Monday, RIM announced its BlackBerry Connect licensing program for mobile device manufacturers. It enables device producers to equip their handsets to connect back to RIM’s Enterprise Server. RIM said that Nokia will release the 6800 phone by the second half of this year.
And, RIM announced plans to enable the BlackBerry connectivity for mobile devices based on the Microsoft Corp. Windows Powered Pocket PC and Smartphone platforms.
The company made the product declarations in New Orleans at the CITA Wireless event.
