Oracle glitch mars semester’s start

A student’s first week at university can be hard, especially if it’s out of town. Dealing with a new residence, new classes, new buildings and few friends can be stressful.

So can dealing with a deaf administrative software system. That appears to have happened this week at Washington State University, according to this report in Network World U.S.

Blame is focused on a communications problems in a new financial aid module in the university’s Oracle PeopleSoft ERP suite. Oracle looked after the integration.
 
ERP projects have a long history of being tough to implement (see below), arguably because they touch so many parts of an organization. Still, this is 2012. Haven’t we learned the lessons of integration?
