OpenText unveils upgrades for enterprise solutions

OpenText is further enabling artificial intelligence (AI) in the enterprise with a new release.

The company has announced the availability of OpenText Release 16 Enhancement Pack 3 (EP3), which will deliver upgraded analytics; better AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and information security capabilities; as well as improved user experience and third-party integrations.

All of these upgrades will be offered via the company’s Magellan platform, released at OpenText’s Enterprise World in Toronto on July 11, which combines open source machine learning with advanced analysis to acquire, merge, manage, and analyze big data.

Available generally now, the EP3 enhancements include:

OpenText, a Canadian enterprise information management (EIM) software developer, recently bought Covisint, a US-based information technology company, for $103 million USD in July 2017, and Guidance Software, a forensic security company, for $222 million in September 2017. These acquisitions have helped OpenText extend its EIM platform, empower it with new ways of collecting and managing data, and deliver easier ways for customers to embrace digital transformation as a result, the company says in a Nov. 7 press release.

“More and more enterprise information is being created by machines, rather than humans. At OpenText we are prepared for a future where enterprises need to automate, collect, manage, and derive insight from these new sources of data and information,” Mark J. Barrenechea, vice chairman, CEO and CTO at OpenText, says in the release. “The deep integration of the Covisint and Guidance Software teams into OpenText ensures our customers have the technology they need to manage increasingly information-intensive businesses, and to maximize the value of all available data, no matter where it is created.”

In particular, because of the technology from the Covisint acquisition, OpenText Business Network is now equipped with an IoT platform that can securely manage sensitive information “across complex systems of people, systems, and devices.”

EP3 also uses Covisint’s identity and access management platform to manage and secure user-based access to trading partners information and back-end systems to enable better collaboration across supply chains that extend beyond just transactions.

“OpenText is number one in enterprise content services, we have the world’s largest business network, and we’re defining enterprise AI applications and services,” Barrenechea adds.

Muhi Majzoub, executive vice president of engineering at OpenText, explains that this release is “further empowering OpenText customers to do more with their enterprise information, turning data into insight and a key competitive advantage.”

“OpenText is creating more connections with industry-leading services, driving deeper integration across the OpenText EIM platform and ecosystem, and fully leveraging the power of IoT and information security,” he continues.

So far, client reaction has been positive to EP3. Chua Soon Guan, chief executive at VITAL Shared Services, a Singapore Ministry of Finance department, uses OpenText’s solutions to digitize and improve its work processes.

“We are thrilled to see the enhanced AI, automation and analytics capabilities in Release 16, and will explore with OpenText how they can further support our digital transformation,” he says.
