One in five Web attacks aimed at Facebook, other social nets

One in five online attacks are aimed at social networks,  such as Facebook, says Nebulas Solutions Group

The security firm’s Web Hacking Incidents Database (WHID) 2009 Bi-Annual Report, which is conducted in conjunction with Breach Security revealed that online attacks had surged by 30 per cent since 2008.

Nebulas also said SQL Injection attacks  were the most popular form of attack, accounting for 19 per cent of all security breaches.

“The report’s findings clearly show that social networking sites are being targeted,” said Nick Garlick, Managing Director of Nebulas Solutions Group.

“We’ve seen and heard anecdotal evidence that web 2.0 applications are being attacked more frequently and more aggressively, but the scale of these findings show very clearly that organisations must now look very closely at their security policies and procedures around Web 2.0.”
