NetBeans updated for HTML5

It’s going to be easier for Java developers to build rich HTML5-based interfaces for mobile and Web applications with the latest upgrade of NetBeans, according to Oracle Corp.

Browsers are increasingly being used as the primary interface for applications built by enterprise Java developers.

With the release of version 7.3 of NetBeans, Java developers can use the same integrated development environment (IDE) they would employ for composing in HTML5 as they would for creating back-end services to which mobile and Web apps would connect to, said Bill Pataky, VP of product management of tools and frameworks, at Oracle.

NetBeans is a primarily an IDE for Java but is also used with other languages such as PHP, C/C++ and HTML5. NetBeans is written in Java and can run on Windows, OSX, Linux, Solaris and other platforms supporting a compatible Java virtual machine.

NetBeans 7.3, released on Thursday, also contain new features for writing in HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript.

There is also a new plug-in for the Google Chrome browser which renders a Web page as it is being composed by the developer on NetBeans. The IDE comes with a new JavaScript editors and debugger based on Oracle’s Nashorn engine.
