NEC Corp. will use Transmeta Corp.’s latest Crusoe processor in a new all-in-one desktop PC that it will roll out in Japan on Dec. 12, it announced Thursday.
The MA10W/FE is the basic model of NEC’s latest PowerMate eco series, featuring a 1GHz Crusoe TM5800 processor.
By using a power-efficient Crusoe processor that generates little heat, the product doesn’t need a noisy fan, the Tokyo company said in a statement.
All the parts are built into the back of its 17-inch (43-centimeter) TFT (thin film transistor) colour SXGA resolution (1,280 pixels by 1,024 pixels) LCD (liquid crystal display), saving desktop workspace.
The MA10W/FE is equipped with a 20G-byte hard disk drive, 128M bytes of DDR SDRAM (double data rate synchronous dynamic RAM), a Fast Ethernet interface and a 24X CD-ROM drive.
The product will be released on Dec. 12 in Japan at 298,000 yen (CDN$3,682). For Europe and the North America, the company plans to launch a 15-inch TFT LCD desktop PC with a 1GHz Crusoe processor sometime in December or January. The company launched its first PowerMate eco desktop PC with a 900MHz Crusoe processor in the U.S. in August.
