Teen pop sensations such as Britney Spears have some competition from a new performer on the scene.
British cyber star T-Babe, the creation of Sacha and Tessa Hartmann, was launched at Midem 2000 in Cannes, one of the largest global music exhibitions. T-Babe is able to walk, talk, dance and sing, and even has a whole biography which includes her likes and dislikes.
Glasgow Records launched the cyber creation and her debut song – a high-energy dance track called “Peter Pumpkineater.” The song is accompanied by a digitally-animated music video featuring a backup group and dancers Tanaka and Jake.
Multicultural background
The 18-year-old lead singer is the daughter of S-Man, a computer engineer, and housewife Mia. She was brought up in a multicultural environment and speaks English, Italian and German. She is currently working to improve her Japanese.
The singing voice behind T-Babe is being kept a secret for now, but the creators have said vocals are supplied by an American singer who is well established in Europe.
T-Babe grew out of a dance project for which the Hartmanns were having trouble finding the right person. Speculations about how great it would be if they could create the perfect person for the job led to T-Babe.
They designed T-Babe to be a role model to teenagers.
“I think personality-wise, I can be an influence on young people,” T-babe has said.
“Even though I’m a virtual character, I have strong morals and very strong principles. The rock and pop market has a tendency to indulge in excessive habits, but I’m very sensible and health-conscious.”
