Intel Corp. said its new Core central processing unit (CPU) line called Haswell, will deliver twice the 3D performance of its third generation Ivy Bride core processors while consuming significantly less power, elevating the chip maker’s posture against rivals AMD and Nvidia.
The ehanced graphics capabilities will enable high-definition gaming and video playback and reduce the need for separate graphics cards.
Graphics capability is the strong suit of Nvidia and AMD, but the two manufacturers may not need to worry about competing against Intel’s new CPU in the high-end PC market.
While this performance puts the Haswell CPU on equal footing with the high-end mobile graphic processing unit (GPU) , GeForce GT 650M from Nvidia, specs released by Intel yesterday suggests that online all-in-one desktop PCs and notebooks will be the vehicle for new integrated graphics architecture.

Intel is naming the top levels of Haswell Intel Iris Graphics and Intel Iris Pro Graphics. Both feature added support for advanced APIs which include DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2, and OpenGL 4.0
Iris Graphics and Iris Pro will deliver resolutions of up to 4K-by-2K on up to three displays. Intel said the new Core chip will double performance on the same power consumption compared to Ivy Bridge chips.
