Oracle Corp. subsidiary Innovase OY has unveiled a new plug-in for MySQL’s storage engine InnoDB.
The InnoDB Plug-in 1.0 for MySQL 5.1 will add advanced capabilities for the storage engine including fast index creation, data compression and file format management. This means the upgrade will allow indexes to be added or dropped quickly, as well as, significant reductions in storage and Input/Output ( I / O) requirements.
The plug-in can be also be installed into an existing environment using MySQL’s pluggable storage architecture – allowing MySQL 5.1 users to immediately move to the latest InnoDB release without waiting for the new version.
