Up to 2,000 high-end models of Apple Computer Inc.’s iMac DV home computer are now rolling out of a factory in Pardubice, Czech Republic, 70 miles from the capital Prague, according to the company.
The facility has two production lines covering an area of 2,000 square metres and employs 300 people.
Apple’s iMacs are made in Pardubice under the management of the Foxconn Company, which also produces entry-level iMacs in Asia. Foxconn is an Apple contract partner and has been producing test models of the iMacs in the Czech Republic since September.
Apple will distribute iMacs from the Czech facility throughout Europe, the company said.
The factory is in an industrial zone supported by the Czech government – as are similar facilities used by Matsushita Electric Co. Ltd., in Pilsen, or by FIC, in Rudna near Prague.
