IDC: PC vendors look to Latin America for growth

Facing a downturn in the U.S. and Western European markets, PC makers will look to Latin America to boost sales in 2001, where they will reduce prices to help increase shipments, International Data Corp. (IDC) Latin America said in a summary of a new report on the PC market to be issued next week.

The analyst firm predicts that Latin America’s PC market will remain healthy during 2001, with an estimated 9.24 million desktop and notebook computers to be shipped at a value of about US$9.4 billion, IDC Latin America said. Unit sales will increase in the region by more than 20 percent, giving Latin America the strongest growth rate among world markets.
