HP CEO: Wait until 2016 for turnaround

Meg Whitman, CEO of Hewlett-Packard Corp., says she won’t be able to say if she’s managed to turn the company around until 2016.

The biggest problems HP faces are the turnover in CEOs and HP’s own IT decisions, Whitman said, according tot his article by ComputerWorld. For years, it focused almost exclusively on printers, finally ending up with a more diversified portfolio of product offerings, she said. But now, she says, the company has focused too much on short term fixes to its problems, and needs to cut down on its bloated lineup of products, which still includes more than 2,000 laser printers.

Whitman says HP will concentrate its efforts on a smaller number of products, cutting down the number of printers by half, for example, only make investments that will pay off.

The company has suffered several bad quarters recently, and has laid off tens of thousands of employees.
