When the idea of virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI) was first introduced many IT leaders immediately saw its potential for reliability, convenience, great service, ease of management and providing people the ability to literally take their work with them across different devices.
Despite these benefits, VDI deployment is not as widespread as would be expected.
In this episode of ITWC Webinars titled: Investigating the ROI of Desktop Virtualization, the drivers for VDI and how to align the desktop and app virtualization with mobility programs are discussed by Sachin Chedda, director of solutions for marketing and management at virtual computing platform firm, Nutanix and Michael Berman, senior sales engineer for virtualization and software-as-a-service company, Citrix.
The Webinar also delves into new approaches to VDI architecture and provides guidance on how your organization can achieve VDI success.
“It’s quite common for organizations to be in the early adoption phase in VDI,” according to Chedda. “We see a lot of customers who have dabbled with app virtualization or desktop virtualization but haven’t sincerely considered it.”
This is understandable said Berman.
Indeed a poll taken during the Webinar indicated that only 30.8 per cent of attendees are currently using desktop and application virtualization in their organization.
“There is still some uncertainty with what VDI today is like and how it is different from the early days of VDI,” according to Berman. “There’s still a lot of misconception and misunderstanding.”
According to the two VDI has gone “beyond just simplication” and now touches a broader spectrum of workplace operations and the enterprise strategy as a whole.
