Google rolls out e-mail security service

Google Inc. has announced security services that will filter messages and encrypt data.

The Mountain View, Calif.-based vendor says the services will work Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange and Novell Groupwise, with prices starting at US$3 per user per year.

Based on technology developed by Postini Inc. of San Carlos, Calif., Google’s Message Security service, which costs US$12 per user per year, will filter outbound e-mails and filter incoming messages for spam and malware.

It does not require additional hardware and includes an administrative console. Google claims the service will stop phishing, denial of service attacks and directory harvest attacks.
