SAS Institute Inc. has launched its Visual Data Discovery query tool, which lets users plot three-dimensional graphs.The vendor boasts this has advanced statistical analysis, including variance, regression, multiple imputation for missing values, non-linear modeling and decision trees. Based on SAS’s Enteprise Intelligence Platform, Visual Data Discovery holds data in memory during visualization and uses multithreading in multi-processor machines. Here’s another way of dealing with workers who install their own client software without getting permission. Faronics Corp. has released Anti-Executable 3.0, which is designed to keep games, instant messaging clients and peer-to-peer applications off your machines. The “white list” feature, new to version 3.0, is designed to ensure only software authorized by IT is on the machine. This is marketed as as a way of preventing pirated software from ending up on your machines. Anti-Executable is not the only way of locking a machine down.
